Currently, there are millions of creative and intelligent African-American students in urban classrooms across America with an aptitude for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Unfortunately, society has wrongly portrayed these students' brilliance through false narratives in the media. As a result, these brilliant children are being overlooked in an educational system that has undervalued them and neglected to provide the necessary resources and tools to tap into their hidden potential. With the Hood Smart program, we aim to shift the focus away from the harmful and inaccurate portrayal and move it towards the genius waiting to flourish in our urban communities across America. Throughout history, black intellectuals and creatives have molded society and culture with little resources. Imagine what the future holds when the proper education and tools are in the hands of our youth growing up in these inner-city communities. With our team of dedicated educators, STEM experts, media moguls, and environmental activists, we can change the narrative on a national and global scale as our future innovators close the achievement gap and change the world around them through STEM.
